Colibrium Additive secures $31 million NAVAIR contract

Colibrium Additive has been awarded a $31 million contract by NAVAIR in help of its Additive Manufacturing Functionality initiative.

The Additive Manufacturing Functionality initiative goals to allow expedited testing, qualification and certification of metallic additively manufactured components in a bid to enhance the U.S. Navy’s operational readiness.

Below the settlement, Colibrium Additive will ship six metallic alloy Materials Course of Combos (MPCs), that are the detailed metallic alloy’s bodily and mechanical property information. The additive manufacturing expertise provider may even optimise course of parameters, consolidate materials and course of specs, and set up design allowables for the properties examined.

Colibrium will increase the prevailing AlSi7Mg and IN718 packages, whereas including 17-4PH and 7050-RAM2 to the present portfolio of 316L, CoCr, and Ti64. A devoted thin-wall fatigue characterisation will assist validate the efficiency and fatigue lifetime of thin-wall geometries, supporting the qualification and certification of additively manufactured constructions for aviation use.

Below the settlement, and to fulfill NAVAIR required improvement timelines, Colibrium Additive may even ship three M Line metallic 3D printing methods and one M2 Collection 5 printer to help the MPC improvement effort. A complete AddWorks companies bundle, encompassing licensed materials characterisation/information curves, manufacturing course of directions, and choose specs to help the additive manufacture of NAVAIR parts, may even be included. Colibrium may even present a coaching program to help the repeatable manufacturing of airworthy components, whereas a complete coaching plan for groups in manufacturing, high quality, design, supplies, and machine operation will assist to construct enduring in-house functionality.

Collectively, these components are meant to shorten lead occasions for important parts, enhance fleet sustainment and improve general naval aviation readiness.

“Colibrium Additive is proud to increase its help of NAVAIR with confirmed metallic additive expertise and deep software experience,” stated Lars Bruns, Government Expertise Chief at Colibrium Additive. “By combining licensed {hardware} with licensed course of information and hands-on coaching, we’re serving to speed up the Navy’s capacity to provide repeatable, airworthy parts at scale and scale back provide chain danger for important aviation components.”
