Sandvik and Additive Industries have entered a strategic partnership to allow direct filling of the MetalFab Powder Load Device (PLT), an industrial powder hopper designed for steel additive manufacturing (AM) printing.
This collaboration integrates Sandvik’s premium steel powder manufacturing with Additive Industries’ superior manufacturing facility workflow, providing an entire and seamless powder dealing with resolution. The PLT, developed to work immediately with Additive Industries’ MetalFab additive manufacturing techniques, permits powder to be stuffed beneath managed circumstances at Sandvik’s manufacturing website in Sweden and shipped on to the shopper for instant use, eliminating guide dealing with or publicity.
Additive Industries is acknowledged for its high-productivity, automated laser powder mattress fusion techniques, and the PLT enhances this ecosystem by enabling automated, protected, and traceable powder administration.
Sandvik contributes its experience in gas-atomized steel powders and can initially provide Osprey 718 (nickel-based superalloy), Osprey 316L (chrome steel), and Osprey Ti-6Al-4V-ELI (Grade 23 titanium alloy). These supplies shall be packaged in inert circumstances and stay sealed till used within the MetalFab™ system.
Every PLT unit has a quantity capability of 175 liters and may retailer roughly 600 kg of metal powder, relying on the fabric’s density. The system is designed to assist safe transportation by highway, rail, and sea, decreasing the necessity for single-use plastic packaging whereas sustaining powder high quality.
In accordance with Andrew Coleman, VP of Enterprise Unit AM, Powder Options at Sandvik, “Because the main developer and producer of gas-atomized steel powder for superior manufacturing applied sciences, we’re happy to collaborate with Additive Industries to ship a state-of-the-art steel powder provide resolution.”
